SYDNEY (The Daily Telegraph) - A 10-year-old Sydney girl was targeted by a pedophile impersonating pop star Justin Bieber in a sickening bid to "groom" young children on the internet.
Police said Wednesday the girl was enticed into talking to "Bieber" in a video chat room.
After gaining her confidence he then asked her to model revealing clothing.
The online profile had a photograph of the singer, his birth date and other details to make the child think she was in touch with the teenage Canadian star.
It was not clear how much the man bore a physical resemblance to Bieber, but after a number of online conversations the offender then tried to get his victim to wear revealing clothing for him.
When the girl told her mother she immediately contacted police, who are investigating. The man first made contact with the victim on January 9.
"This incident serves as an important reminder that online predators will stop at nothing to groom children," said Detective Superintendent John Kerlatec, commander of the New South Wales sex crimes squad.
"We advise parents to educate their children about these dangers, and to warn them to be wary of anyone who claims to be famous."
