GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - The University of Florida is launching a center for global Islamic studies. The center has already been approved by university officials and will be announced when UF's Board of Trustees meet this week.
MIAMI (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard has repatriated 86 migrants it says were illegally migrating from Cuba and Haiti. The Coast Guard said in a statement Saturday that the repatriations are the result of five separate interdictions of people attempting to illegally migrate to the United States through the Florida Straits.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard says that authorities have recovered the body one person following an apparent small plane crash less than one mile from St. Petersburg's Albert Whitted Airport. The agency said in a statement yesterday that the Coast Guard and partner agencies responded a single-seat aircraft that had reportedly crashed.
MIAMI (AP) - The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed separate sexual harassment lawsuits against two Florida agriculture companies. The cases were filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Miami against Windmill Farms Nursery in Zolfo Springs and Moreno Farms, which has facilities in Hendry County.
