CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) - Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade made one high school senior's night when he showed up unexpectedly at her prom. Wade walked into a ballroom with roses and hugged Nicole Muxo on Friday night as her classmates from Archbishop Coleman Carroll High School cheered.

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say an 86-year-old central Florida mother says she fatally shot her son in self-defense. Polk County sheriff's officials said Nancy Pennypacker a deputy her 64-year-old son had been drinking and hit her in the face when the fight escalated into gunfire.

LEALMAN, Fla. (AP) - Two Good Samaritans are being praised after authorities say they rescued a disabled veteran whose wheelchair rolled into a southwest Florida pond. Lealman Police say 79-year-old Robert Lunay was sitting in his wheelchair overlooking a pond Friday night when his wheelchair slipped and he fell into the water. Lunay was not injured.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A 14-month-old boy is recovering in the hospital after he was hit by a vehicle and dragged for several feet. Hillsborough County Sheriff's officials said Jaike Young was playing outside with several other children Friday when he a car didn't see the boy and dragged him 8 to 10 feet underneath the car. He was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
