ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Michael Jackson's passing still has people talking everywhere. The king of pop used to visit Central Florida often in the 1980's. And he was in town just five years ago during the turmoil of his child molestation charges, for which he was later found not guilty.
Back in 2004, Jackson stayed in a 26,000 square foot Isleworth palace belonging to timeshare king David Siegel and his wife Jacqueline. We told him it would be $15,000 a week. Now I'm sorry I didn't ask for more because he was accustomed to paying $100,000 a month for a house,” says Mr. Siegel.
“He said he'll take it under the condition that nobody knows he's here. I didn't tell anybody. He moves in. Within a day, he's up on top of the house waving at boaters!” he remembers.
And of course that attracted east coast paparazzi to the surrounding lake. Siegel says Jackson loved the game room and the pool. He remembers Michael spending a lot of the time in the master bedroom with his entourage. “He loved the privacy of this house. He looked at many homes in Isleworth that he could rent. But because this is a 4-acre private island with a private gate, is what really sold him,” says Jacqueline Siegel.
The Siegels say Jackson was a great tenant, and they’re saddened by his death. “I kind of felt the same way when President Kennedy died. What might have been, you know?” wonders the king of timeshares about the king of pop.
