Orlando, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - It's Fring versus Facetime
Joe Dorsey co-owns Blackburst Entertainment , a Central Florida production company. He's just now starting to use an iPhone4 application called Facetime as a tool to communicate with clients.
"It's pretty cool technology," says Dorsey.
Apple's website has a lot of glossy videos showing how Facetime works and as Joe showed us, there’s no exaggeration. Facetime has excellent video quality and crystal clear audio.
Now, Facetime isn't the only mobile video conferencing platform out there.
Fring tries to do the same thing….but does it compare?
Joe demonstrated with his business partner Walter on the other side, and it's not as quick to connect. Plus, the audio is quieter and the picture quality is inferior to Facetime.
"The call quality of Facetime seems to be substantially better, but it's not an apples-to-apples comparison because Walter was on a cell service signal, and when I called my friend who has Facetime, we were both on WiFi connections,” explains Dorsey.
“The only advantage of Fring right now is that you can call from WiFi to 3G. 3G to 3G. And you can call from iPhone to Androids because it’s cross-compatible, whereas Facetime is an Apple-only product,” he finishes.
However, basically just how cool this free video chatting is makes a really good reason to upgrade your mobile technology.
"With the world buying Smartphones, you’re going to see a lot more of it," submits Dorsey.
