VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Diabetes kills more people than breast cancer and aids combined. More than 40,000 people have diabetes in Volusia County alone. That's why the Volusia County Health Department announced a new initiative to let more people know about diabetes dangers.
“Diabetes is such a prevalent disease and is increasing. The obesity epidemic is fueling it so that one out of three people born since 2000 are estimated to be suffering from diabetes in the future,” said Dr. Bonnie Sorensen from the Volusia County Health Department
Taking the Initiative on Diabetes is a partnership with every hospital group that operates in the county to educate people about the disease.
