ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Bob Ruffner has always been active but these swollen veins literally blocked him from living a normal life.
“I've been having cramping and aching in the leg due to the varicose veins,” he says, “use to jog and run but because of the cramping it kind of slows you down.”
“Anyone who has a job where they're standing cashiers will get heavy achy tired heavy legs. The more we stand puts more pressure on the veins, and then, veins have valves on them,” says Dr. Allen Waladis of the Vascular Institute of Central Florida. “As the one way valves break down they get swollen legs. Te varicose veins develop and then they develop worsening problems.”
Waladis says the vena cure procedure fixes painful varicose veins and it's less painful than the traditional vein stripping procedure.
“We place a needle into the vein, and place a wire through the needle and then we can track our catheters over the wire and then place a laser fiber right through the catheter and by heating this small little area here we're able to treat that vein and help remove the vein.”
And after in about an hour-long procedure, bob was back to his normal routine.
“I was afraid there was going to be a little more pain and stress involved with it turned out to be a lunch break procedure for me. If you get it done the rewards are just amazing. No more cramping.“
