So you want to save hundreds on your cable bill, right? Let's
get some help on this from Brad Ritti, who is the President of
MrHookItUp.com.
David: Alright Brad. I'm trying to save some money. Aren't we
all?
Brad: Absolutely.
David: Now I want to get rid of my cable box but still watch
my favorite programming. How do I do it?
Brad: The best way to do it is with an Apple Television, or
we could do a Roku device. Even use your home PC if you're savvy on
the internet, it can save you a lot of money.
David: What is Apple TV and Roku?
Brad: It's referred to as a Magic Box, where we use your
internet connection to stream all your favorite programming
straight to your television.
David: So you need some high speed internet capability.
Brad: Absolutely.
Roku uses Netflix for its content.
Apple TV uses iTunes.
Your PC will use whatever website or server you have access
to online.
Think Hulu.com for example, loaded with free programming.
David: What if I don't want to watch the specialized cable
channels, but I want the local HD channels?
Brad: Your best option is an over-the-air antenna that'll run
you about $100.
David: OK, so $100 for the antenna, couple hundred bucks for
the magic box, and I'm set?
Brad: Absolutely. That's it. And just your internet
connection.
So it's a small one-time investment in a box, and a few bucks
here and there for movies and TV if they're not already free.
Brad: So in the first year you'll see savings of about $700.
Each year after that? It'll be incremental because you've already
purchased your equipment.
David: Money in your pocket really.
Brad: Absolutely, every year you'll see a little more green.
Bottom line? You've got to be a bit tech savvy for this
stuff. And if you like an endless series of cable TV channels, then
cable TV is your best bet. But as we've shown you, this can save
you a lot of money.
