Being Lee Anthony is not easy these days. The brother of accused murderer Casey Anthony has shared the spotlight with his sister throughout the drama surrounding the disappearance and death of his niece, Caylee Marie.
Now, lawyers representing a woman who has brought a defamation lawsuit against Casey, are less-than-satisfied with answers -- or lack thereof -- provided by Lee during a deposition conducted a few weeks ago.
Lee is not accused of any wrong-doing, but lawyers for Zenaida Gonzalez have filed a motion to compel, in hopes of getting answers to two questions.
Gonzalez, the woman who shares the same name as the nanny whom Casey claims abducted her daughter, filed the civil suit against Casey late last year, claiming her life had been ruined as a result of Casey's accusations.
Lee was grilled by attorneys representing Gonzalez for three hours, but during the interview, Lee's attorney, Thomas Luka, objected to two questions. One related to the identity of Caylee's father. The other pertained to Casey's possible involvement in the disappearance of her daughter.
"It has absolutely no relavence in the defamation case," said Luka. "What Mr. Anthony's opinion is, in facts of the murder case, have no real bearing on the defamation suit."
Attorneys representing Gonzalez were not available for comment on Wednesday. Luka still objects to such questions, claiming there is another agenda. "I'm pretty sure this is all for publicity in this case."
Luka has ten days to file a response to this motion. No hearing date has been set for this issue.
Baez files motion to keep videos private
Late Wednesday afternoon Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, filed a new motion -- an Emergency Motion for Protective Order and Other Relief. In this motion, Baez refers to video taken on December 11 at the Orange County Jail. That was the day that a child's remains were found within a mile of the home belonging to Casey's parents, George and Cindy Anthony.
Baez said the Orange County Jail captured video of his client, Casey, while she was in the jail's medical infirmary. Baez also claims the jail captured video of he and Casey talking during a attorney-client visitation.
Baez wants a judge to find out who ordered video to be captured and saved on that day. He claims attorney-client priviledge and contends that his client's right to keep her jail medical record private was violated.
According to the motion, some of these conversations and the video are scheduled to be released through the discovery process because of Florida's broad public records laws.
A spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff's Office, Allen Moore, admits that the video does exist but that there is no audio to accompany the video.
Should the video be released, Baez has stated that would file a federal civil rights lawsuit on Casey's behalf. A hearing date for this motion has not yet been scheduled.
Casey back in court on Thursday
A pre-trial hearing will be held on Thursday, during which time a number of motions will be addressed relating to witnesses and evidence in the murder trial of Casey Anthony. One of the motions involves a suicide note left by Casey's father, George. Police found George in a Daytona Beach motel in January after he disappeared, leaving only the note behind. Attorneys for the Anthony family said the note is a personal matter and should not be made public.
The hearing is scheduled for to begin at 3:20 p.m. before Judge Stan Strickland in the Orange County Courthouse. The event will be streamed live on MyFoxOrlando.com.
