Surgeons General gather in Orlando

Forum held on the health of the nation

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - In the midst of President Obama's search for the next United States Surgeon General, five former Surgeons General will be in Orlando on Wednesday to speak on the Health of the Nation.  These former spokespeople for public health will gather at Florida Hospital for a historic community forum.

It has been more than a decade since so many Surgeons General have gathered together for a forum. Presented by Florida Hospital for Children, the free event will include a panel discussion on the past, present and future of health care, immediately followed by a question and answer period.

Community members unable to attend can watch the forum online .


The five United States Surgeons General scheduled to attend include:

  • Richard Carmona, MD, MPH
  • Joycelyn Elders, MD
  • Antonia Novello, MD, MPH, DrPH
  • David Satcher, MD, PhD
  • Kenneth Moritsugu, MD, MPH (Deputy Surgeon General)
     

State Surgeons General from Florida and Arkansas are also expected to attend.  Registration opens at 6 p.m. and the event begins at 6:30 at the Werner Auditorium,  located at 601 E. Rollins Street.   Community members interested in attending should RSVP to 407-303-1700. Seating is limited.
