Two people were arrested Wednesday morning after a high speed chase in Brevard County that reached up to 100 miles per hour, according to deputies.
The chase happened along the Beachline and I-95 at 1:30 a.m. when a Cape Canaveral police officer spotted a pickup truck speeding. Brevard County deputies joined in the chase and say passengers in the truck tossed beer cans out of the truck.
Up to five sheriff’s cruisers were involved in the pursuit. One deputy crashed on the highway when she lost control of her car, but was unhurt. Deputies say the driver of the truck eventually pulled over on I-95 and told them he hadn’t noticed he was being chased.
Deputies searched the truck and say they found an illegally-taken soft-shell turtle in the truck bed. The driver said he found the turtle in Bithlo and intended to turn it loose, according to the crime report.
Deputies say four people were in the truck, including a father and son who was driving. The son was one of the suspects arrested. He’s charged with a DUI, reckless driving, violation of parole, and illegal possession of the turtle.
The names of the suspects have not been released at this time.
