Motorcycle builder Billy Lane was sentenced to six years in prison Friday after pleading no contest to vehicular homicide.
On September 4th 2006, the Florida Highway Patrol says Lane was trying to pass three vehicles on a double-yellow-line stretch of A1A when his southbound Dodge Ram pickup hit a Yamaha motorcycle driver who was traveling northbound. That motorcycle driver, 56 year old Gerald Morelock, was killed instantly.
At the sentencing Friday morning, the victim's family told the judge they would like to see something positive come out of their tragic loss. The victim's brother and nephew both said they would like to work with Lane to set up a non profit foundation to help raise money to help children as a way to continue to honor Gerald Morelock who enjoyed helping kids.
