TITUSVILLE, Fla. - Two Titusville adults have been arrested after a 15 year-old nearly died from a drug overdose. The two are charged with providing the drugs the teen ingested.
The incident began on Sunday, August 22, 2010 just before 8:00 a.m. when Titusville officers and EMS responded to a home in the 4000 block of Mount Vernon Ave after a 911 call reported that a fifteen year-old was unconscious and barely breathing from an apparent drug overdose.
The victim was brought to a local hospital where she was then transported to another hospital in Orlando due to her serious condition.
After an investigation by Titusville detectives it was learned that the 15 year-old victim was taken to a house party in Port St. John the night before her overdose was reported by a twenty-five year-old female, Emily Childs, and a thirty three year-old male, Christopher Powers, both neighbors. She was provided alcoholic beverages at the party. When they returned to the male’s home, 4018 Mount Vernon Ave Titusville, the adults gave the victim Xanax (Alprazolam) and Oxycodone .
The adults had the victim snort Oxycodone, also called Roxicodone, in a powder form.
Both the adult’s observed the victim turn blue and had to take measures to open her airway when she had trouble breathing. But neither suspect called for medical attention.
At some point, they carried the victim home where the victim’s sister called 911.
Rose was charged with culpable negligence; delivery of Xanax to a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Powers was charged with violation of probation (Trafficking Cocaine), delivery of a controlled substance to a minor; child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The victim is expected to recover.
In an incident in 2009, Timothy Green, 25, of Titusville was charged in the overdose death of a 21 year-old man who was found dead off Singleton Ave. The victim had died after ingesting drugs provided by Timothy Green. Green was recently sentenced to 14 years in prison.
