SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A bomb squad with the Brevard County Sheriff's Office responded to a suspicious device which turned while construction crews were doing site work for a residential swimming pool.
The device, "about the size of a scuba tank," according to officials, was unearthed in the 100 block of SE 1st St in in Satellite Beach. Most of the houses in the area were built in the late 30s and 40s.
Officials said the neighborhood was once a test range for the military.
"It was evident by the looks of it, that it was a military
ordinance," Brevard County Sheriff's Deputy Mike Demorat told FOX
35. "It looks like a large military bomb but it's just filled with
concrete."
Deputies notified authorities at Patrick AFB. Their bomb
squad properly identified it as military property and transported
it back to the base.
The ordinance was discovered just after 5 p.m. and the scene was cleared by 7:15 p.m. No injuries were reported and no one was evacuated from the area.
