Palm Bay Police say a woman is dressing up in scrubs, walking into medical facilities and swiping wallets.

Detectives say the woman was seen on video at multiple locations in South Brevard County and part of North Indian River County using stolen credit cards she obtained from victims at area hospitals and medical offices.

Police say the woman made fraudulent purchases in excess of approximately $5,000 in the last week.

Police say the latest incident occurred on October 13th at which time the suspect, described as a black female wearing a hospital style scrub top and dark colored pants, went into the MIMA (Melbourne Internal Medicine Associates) medical offices located at 730 Malabar Rd.

Police say the woman entered a closed-door medical office and stole a wallet from a woman’s purse, then immediately went on a spending spree using several credit cards belonging to the victim.

Police say the suspect was captured on video at Publix on Malabar Road with the stolen wallet and using the stolen credit cards to buy approximately $300 in gift cards and other merchandise. Approximately 30-minutes later, police say she went to Wal-Mart located at 1040 Malabar Rd. SE and spent over $500 on miscellaneous items including three $100 gift cards.

Police say the suspect also travelled to the Melbourne area where she continued to use the stolen credit cards at local retail outlets including Target, Walgreens, Winn Dixie and Publix.

“In about two hours she ran up charges of over $1200,” said Detective Kevin Folsom. “We’ve also received information from Sebastian of similar activity involving theft of wallets from medical facilities there.”

So far the reported thefts have involved incidents at Holmes Regional Medical Center, Cape Canaveral Hospital, MIMA and Sebastian Hospital.

It is not known if the suspect is employed at a local medical facility.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Central Florida CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous and can be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000.
