Child critical after near-drowning

A one-year-old girl is in critical condition following a near-drowning. The girl is believed to have fallen into a swimming pool where she remained for approximately 10 minutes before she was pulled from the water. The child was then transported to Wuestoff Hospital in Rockledge.

The incident happened at 6775 Cairo Road in Port St. John and the call was received around 5 p.m. late Thursday afternoon. The mother of the child was home at the time of the accident, according to authorities.

An investigation into the cause of the near-drowning is underway.
