CLERMONT, Fla. (AP) - A Clermont man turned himself into authorities last week on charges related to a fatal hit and run crash which occurred in August of last year. Kenneth Scott Sullivan, 41, was released from the Lake County jail on $10,000 bond on Tuesday.
On the night of August 27, 2009, the Florida Highway Patrol said a 50-year-old British woman, Penelope Vernham, died when she was dragged along a roadway following the hit-and-run collision.
According to an FHP report, Vernham was a passenger on a motorcycle traveling along U.S. Highway 192 in Lake County when both Vernham and the driver, 53-year-old Dunkin Jackson, were thrown from the motorcycle after being rear-ended by Sullivan.
Sullivan dragged Vernham's body for more than a quarter of a mile before it became dislodged. Authorities said he never attempted to stop after the collision.
Jackson was hospitalized that with serious but stable injuries. He has since recovered.
