North Korea's leader Kim Jong-Il reportedly wept at the sight of the controversial rocket launch over the weekend, according to state media reports.
Kim "felt regret for not being able to spend more money on the people's livelihoods and was choked with sobs," AFP reports ruling communist party paper Rodong Sinmun said .
It's the latest move seen by many as a way for Kim to rally his country as he makes a bid for re-election as chairman of the National Defense Commission.
On Tuesday, the AFP reports, the government released footage of the launch that showed the rocket with the word "Chosun" (Korea) heading into the sky. See photos of the launch.
The AP reports that state-run TV called the event a "great inspiration" to its people. Pyongyang citizen Ri Yong Hwa told APTN the launch was "a great, auspicious event for the nation that displays the spirit and merit of 'military first' Korea."
