ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The Florida Department of Education released school grades for the 2008-2009 school year. One success story is right here in Central Florida.
Mollie Ray Elementary school has gone from an "F" school to an "A" school - a significant turn around. This time last year, the school was failing, but things quickly changed in just one year.
Staff members attribute the change to the new principal Mrs. Kathryn Shuler, but Shuler says she could not have made such drastic improvements without the help of the community and the entire staff.
Many are wondering what her secret is, but Shuler says it all boiled down to more reading, math time, and a lot of tutoring. On top of that there was a common thread among many of the 530 students…poor vision.

With the help of a partnership between the University of Central Florida and community donations, 40 to 60 students were fitted with new glasses. Staff members are crediting the soaring grades to this among other tools.
