Firefighters say a 140 acre fire in Sorrento, located in Lake County is 20 percent contained. No evacuations were issued, but the fire came close to some homes giving residents a scare.
In this subdivision which is proudly called Wekiva Pines Country Estates, it's not easy to see the trees go up in flames, and it's even harder for residents like Dan and Linda Leforge, as they monitor the fire from their ATV. "We were sitting down having a bowl of ice cream and looking out the back and the back started burning."Dan and Linda live in a beautiful brick home and have two horses out back. The couple was planning to go out for a mother's day celebration today, when they saw the flames, "It was on the back side behind the horses and they were kind of frantic so just trying to keep the house from burning." Dan says the fire started in an area behind their home. It then hopped the fence, burning the wood and continued to spread, "It jumped so quick it was almost seconds before it was out of hand."
Firefighters used water from a nearby pond to douse the flames from up above by chopper, they're still investigating the cause, but neighbors believe it started when a transformer blew.
