FRUITLAND PARK, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Fruitland Park Police, along with Lake County Sheriff's deputies, responded to a murder-suicide on Tuesday evening. One person died on scene and the other died after being transported to a hospital. A 911 call was received around 7:30 p.m. from the Cain Pole South Bait and Tackle Shop , located at 3337 U.S. Hwy 441.
Deputies have identifed the deceased as Ron and Tonya Warren. The husband and wife were also co-owners of the bait shop. Police said Tonya Warren had recently filed for a divorce.
"She had obtained an injunction a few weeks ago on him. The only contact they were to have was non-violent contact over the child or the business, because both of them ran the business," said Fruitland Park Police Chief J.M. Isom, Sr.
Police said the couple had been doing inventory at the shop along with other family members, including their son. Investigators said the two had been arguing, when Warren retrieved a gun and shot his wife, then turned the gun on himself.
"She probably thought he wouldn't do anything with her family members here, but some people handle pressure differently than other people and he just snapped," Chief Isom said.
The couple lived in Fruitland Park. The investigation is ongoing.
