Firefighter airlifted after ceiling collapse

ASTATULA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A Lake County firefighter was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center after sustaining injuries while putting out a mobile home fire in Astatula.

Fire Rescue crews responded to the blaze at New York Ave and County Road 561 around 5 p.m. on Tuesday. A few hours later, the ceiling fell down on top of the firefighter who was only identified as serving with the Lake County Fire Department since October of 2007.

"I think he's going to be fine,” said Chief Jack Fillman. “He's got some numbness, so we are just taking all of the necessary precautions. We don’t have a definitive diagnosis yet."

A resident of the home said the fire started on the stove and went up into the attic before spreading throughout the home.
