POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Investigators are being particularly vague, unusually so, for a search the size they have staged in Plant City, about what they're digging for and why they are at the location in the first place.
But there's no doubt it's not a coincidence that they're searching between two houses believed to have been purchased by the woman named as the only person of interest in this case: Dee Dee Moore.
Hillsborough County County detectives say Polk County Investigators asked them to help search the two yards off State road 60 in Plant City.
The won't tell us much more of anything, except that it has to do with the investigation into the now nearly year-old disappearance of 2006 lotto winner Abraham Shakespeare .
Colonel Albert Frost with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says, "It's an active criminal investigation."
Investigators showed up with metal detectors and probing sticks early Tuesday morning. Skyfox video shows they paid close attention to a cement slab in one of the yards.
Frost says, "We all have a lot of unanswered questions that we're trying to get answers to, but we just don't have them."
The owner on record for one of the homes is listed as a man believed to be Moore's boyfriend, and the other, a company owned by Dee Dee Moore. That home, used as a law office for an attorney who according to records, helped Moore transfer many of Abraham Shakespeare's assets to her name.
Moore claims she actually helped Shakespeare disappear to get away from all the hanger-ons , taking over his assets as part of the plan.
She now owns his million dollar Polk County home and his cars, and investigators say all of Shakespeare's money is gone, along with 43-year-old Abraham Shakespeare.
Frost says, "I can't really comment on anything going on."
Investigators say they'll be back out searching Wednesday when they may hold another news conference and give us more information.
Moore has not been charged in the case, nor has she talked to
media. A Lakeland police officer was arrested Monday night for
accepting money from Moore for confidential information regarding
Shakespeare. He is now out on bond.
