ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - One of two children struck by a car while getting on a school bus shares his story of survival and faith.
The two kids were getting on their school bus when an out-of-control car plowed into them. 11-year-old Robert Wilkes was standing with other students at the bus stop at Clarcona Ocoee Road at Long Lake Hills Boulevard in Pine Hills when a Buick came flying off the road hitting both Robert and 7 year-old Joshua Jacobs then slammed into a brick wall.
Robert is home from the hospital and says he remembers the whole horrifying ordeal. He told FOX 35 that he heard the screech and tried to run but was clipped in the leg and knocked unconscious and when he awoke is only concern was for his brother...
"I woke up and I was kinda dizzy a little bit. I was just trying' to make sure my brother was on the bus and he was o.k. So I just walked to the bus and made sure that he was o.k. After that I sat on the ground and the paramedics was talking to me telling' me I'm OK like they had to strap me down to the board."
"I think it's blessed cause I coulda lost my life. Me and Joshua coulda lost our life"
His brother is fine but 7-year-old Joshua Jacob is still in the hospital with a badly broken leg after being pinned under the car. Joshua's family tells us he had to have surgery on his leg but say he's doing fairly well considering what happened.
The Florida Highway Patrol says that a woman driving a red Honda swerved causing the Buick to lose control and crash into the children. The 31-year old woman driving the Honda was given a ticket for improper lane change.
