Person of interest in Somer Thompson murder extradited

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A man who is a person of interest in the slaying of a 7-year-old girl has been extradited from Mississippi to Florida. Jarred Mitchell Harrell is jailed in Clay County on $1 million bond. He appeared in court over closed-circuit television Wednesdaymorning and was appointed a public defender.

Jarred Harrell, 24, was booked into the Clay County Jail just before 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. He’s facing 29 counts of child pornography in Clay County. Previously, he was in jail in Meridian, Miss. His first court appearance is scheduled for 7:45 a.m.

Somer Thompson disappeared in October 2009 while walking home from school near her Orange Park home. She was later murdered and her body was dumped in a Georgia landfill.

Harrell lived in Somer’s neighborhood, now investigators plan to question him about the girl’s murder.
