ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL Fox 35) - It's a brand new workout designed to get you in shape without having to hit the gym … and it only takes 20 minutes. It's called pylata, and an instructor in Central Florida came up with the workout.
Introducing the new mat-based workout pylata … It engages every muscle using no weights, no machines, and no gym.
Pylata is an intensive workout that tightens and tones using only your body weight. Sean Vigue is a Disney Castmate Instructor and the creator of the core workout.
“I wanted to put something out there that I hadn't seen before -- an exercise that's short that's tense and uses only body weight,” says Vigue, a master fitness instructor. “Pylatas are short intense workouts that combine the core building and strengthening of Pilates with the interval intensity of Tabata and we always finish with a cooling yoga.”
For 20 minutes or less, fitness fanatics like Lisa Buyer say pylata can do a body -- and mind -- some good.
“When you go to a class it takes your mind and body apart, and when you leave the class you come out with your mind and body put together in a different way," says Buyer.
Vigue says pylata is intense. Athletes and people who work out often are the ones who should take advantage, but if you’re still up for a challenge, take a few yoga and Pilate classes first.
If you want to do the workout in your own home, Vigue has a pylata DVD and several fitness videos posted on you tube.
