ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Tourists and locals alike are now able to check out vacation spots and events in one Central Florida county by simply taking a picture with a cell phone.
Quick response codes, or QR codes, are being placed around Volusia County by the West Volusia County Tourism Advertising Authority . Similar to bar codes technology, QR codes contain information like web addresses that are readable only by cell phones.
Here's how it works: The user takes a picture of the code with a cell phone. The cell phone reads the QR code and directs the user to a website. The user no longer has to type a website sites domain name or use a search engine to get the exact website.
The West Volusia Tourism Advertising Authority will be marketing their website with stickers displaying a QR code on a sign held by a manatee. The QR code is free.
QR codes are not just for business. They can be created for a Facebook page or personal websites.
If you are interested in getting a QR code there are websites out there, such as NeoReader.com , where you can create one for free.
