LAKE HELEN, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The women behind the “Ladies of 32744” calendar say it is a celebration of age and womanhood. "The calendar features Lake Helen women, ranging in age from mid-40's to late 80's, posing apparently nude."
"Well, they all had clothes on," clarifies Pat Chadwick, editor of the Lake Helen Observer community newsletter, "you just don't know that."
Chadwick came up with the idea during a brainstorming session on how to raise money to renovate the kitchen at the American Legion Post 127 Ladies Auxiliary. Chadwick herself is not an auxiliary member but has friends who are.
"Ah no, it's not risque at all," said Betty Pfahler, also known as "Miss June."
The 87-year-old Pfahler said it was fun to do and worth the obvious "nudie" illusion.
"That's what keeps them interested, right?"
The idea was inspired by the 2003 movie "Calendar Girls," where a group of British women pose nude for a fundraiser. The movie was based on a true story.
