BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Christmas is fast approaching and Wal-Mart is making sure hundreds of troops serving in Afghanistan aren't forgotten.

From foot powder and lip balm to toothpaste, snacks and sweets, two dozen of Santa's best helpers gave their time and money to stuff 500 Christmas stockings Wednesday for soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

Emma Meisner coordinated the event. "It's a great moral booster for them to know there's somebody back here doing something for them," said Meisner.

Wal-Mart managers from all over central Florida were busy little elves-teaming up with the Veterans Memorial Center in Merritt Island to spread a little holiday cheer to 300 Marines and 200 soldiers who will spend their Christmas thousands of miles away from their families.

"For Wal-Mart it's very important to us that we support our troops as well us support their families that are supporting them. And it's just our way of saying thank you to our troops," said Wal-Mart General Manager Cheryl Lester.

As part of their thank you Wal-Mart donated everything-- from the stockings and the stocking stuffers… to the postage to ship the Christmas stockings to Afghanistan.
