MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL, FOX 35) - The Marion County Sheriffs office responded to a report of a domestic assault Monday afternoon that ended with a man dead.
According to deputies the incident began just after 3:00 p.m. Monday when they were called to a home on SE highway 42 after a neighbor reported a nearby house on fire. The neighbor added that 53 year old Denise Miner had showed up at their door and that she had been battered, tied and left inside a trailer home by her live in boyfriend. Miner had been able to cut herself free and run to neighbors for help.
When units arrived, they found a trailer home and barn on fire. While firefighters dealt with the fires, deputies began searching the property. They found 59 year old Daniel Lanzl inside a second barn on the property.
After refusing to cooperate with law enforcement, Lanzl used a gun he was carrying and shot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Deputies said Miner had a restraining order against Lanzl.
