ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The 16-year-old who allegedly carjacked a vehicle and was later shot by Orange County deputies apparently faced other criminal charges in 2008, according to jail records.
In a criminal history report released by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Rodney Burton faced two charges of burglary to a dwelling in October of 2008.
He was also charged with two counts of grand theft in the third degree.
On Thursday, officers said they followed Burton as a stolen car suspect into the Chevron gas station at Pine Hills and Silver Star Road in an attempt to arrest him.
An auto trap unit saw that Burton was in the possession of a gun, challenged him and shots were fired. Two deputies who were injured during the incident have been released from the hospital and are resting at their homes.
Burton remains hospitalized at Orlando Regional Medical Center with non life threatening injuries. Detectives from the Orange County Sheriff's Office Robbery Unit report that, upon release from the hospital, Burton will face charges of aggravated assault, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm by a minor and grand theft auto.
