ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 News) - A 2-year-old girl found wandering alone at the Florida Mall was returned to her guardians Thursday morning, Orange County deputies said.
The little girl was found around 6 p.m. Wednesday by a couple visiting Orlando from Georgia. The couple located mall security and a search went on for several hours to find the little girl's parents.
Deputies said they later learned the little girl had come to the mall with friends and family who were in Orlando to visit Disney World. The group apparently spilt into two and was under the assumption the toddler was with the other group. One group left the mall and it wasn’t realized until the entire group was reunited that the little girl was missing.
Deputies said the little girl’s parents stayed back at their home in Baton Rouge, La. and had no idea at the time their daughter was missing. The parents and the Department of Family and Children were eventually made aware.
Deputies later turned the little girl back over to her guardians upon the parents’ permission around 2 a.m. Thursday. The Florida State Attorney’s office is investigating whether any charges will be filed.
