An Orange County Deputy is recovering after a tussle with an accused trespasser overnight.
The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. at the Estates at Maitland Summit off Summit Centre Way. Orange County Sheriff’s investigators said a resident reported a trespasser who was refusing to leave the property.
When a deputy arrived at the location, he found out the trespasser was the mother of the tenant’s girlfriend. The woman was lying on the apartment floor and refused to get up.
The deputy said when he approached the woman, she hit him with her aluminum walking cane and bit her on his left arm. Backup was called and the deputy held the woman until additional help arrived.
The injured officer drove himself to the hospital to be treated. The woman is facing charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and trespassing.
Officers have not released the name of the woman but said she is 45-years-old. Investigators have not been able to determine why the woman refused to leave the apartment.
