ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL, FOX 35) -
Friends and teammates of one of four people killed in St. Petersburg by a drunk driver over the weekend gathered Tuesday for a memorial.
Roy McConnell was the father of the three sons; he along with his son’s died when their car was slammed into by a 20 year old driver who later admitted he had been drinking and smoking marijuana.
McConnell was a member of the Triathlon Team at the Blanchard Park YMCA, near UCF and competed in Iron Man Competitions. Wednesday the team held a memorial for him as they gathered near the pool at 6:00 a.m.
Also in attendance was McConnell’s sister, Deb who admitted that even she didn’t know how many people her brother had touched.
“He touched so many lives,” she said. “He was so much more powerful then we knew.”
The YMCA planned to keep the memorial up for the entire day.
