A freak accident left a Central Florida teenager in a drug induced coma for nearly a week. Over the weekend the 17-year-old was a at a car wash fundraiser for her club soccer team when she accidentally got pinned between a car and the wall. Now a community is coming together to support the family.
“I’m getting emotional, she’s such a fighter and she’s such a lovely, lovely young lady and I just see her coming through this in a very positive way,” said Brenda Newman.
Newman has known Bree McMahon and her entire family for nearly 20 years. She says Bree is making some major steps. “She is off the respirator and I’m happy to say she is doing very well and breathing on her own and she is looking really so wonderful.”
But the 17 year old is recovering at Orlando Regional Medical Center from severe injuries she got. A young lady was driving the vehicle and by accident pinned Brea against the wall. “She had crushed injuries to both her lower extremities of her legs, unfortunately there was a great effort to save the leg, one leg, her left leg had to be amputated. Her right leg is very compromised at this time,” said Newman.
Bree is a senior and soccer star at Freedom High School. Many of her friends, some teammates, have gone to visit her.
"The amount of lives that Bree has touched you don’t really realize until something like this happens. She will light up a room. She is an amazing young lady,” said Newman.
The McMahon family is trying to stay strong. They believe their loved one will recover. “She has a lot of rehabilitation to go through. Taking it day by day and they’re doing everything they can for her,” said Newman.
On Friday, during all home football games in Orange County, an announcement will be made and those interested in donating money to the family will have the chance to.
There will also be an opportunity on Saturday morning at the Evans-Jones game at the Florida Citrus Bowl.
