Tammy Owens says Monday night her neighbor, Paul Wills, needed a favor. "He asked me for a ride, he's a good friend of mine a good person."
She says Wills shattered his windshield after driving on Ponkan Road. He wanted to go back and find out what exactly caused it, "because of a tree branch. That's what he thought it was, honestly, and that's what I thought it was honestly."
When they arrived to the scene, they discovered 13 year old Aujia Ivory had been hit. "When he found out it was a kid I told him to sit on the sidewalk I thought he was going to pass out."
She says they were both stunned, "Almost started crying he's got his own kids and I got my own kids and both of us about puked."
Deputies arrested Wills with hit and run and failure to stop. Owens doesn't understand why Aujia was walking along the dark street.
"She was in the road, don't know why she wasn't walking on the sidewalk." Meanwhile, Owens says Wills is relieved Aujia got the help she needed.
"He's been more happy that she's okay, but he's not the devil some made him out to be. He's not the type of person that would hit a human being."
Wills is out of jail on bond. Arrest reports state that Wills has a warrant out of Utah, but deputies didn't have addition informaiton about it. Wills declined an interview.
