Investigators with the Orlando Police Department say a bomb threat at a downtown Orlando office building appears to be a hoax. The Orlando Fire Department responded to the threat at Regions Plaza, located at 201 South Orange Avenue, around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Multiple floors of the Regions Bank building were evacuated as a precaution.
At approximately 3:20 p.m., a call was received from an unknown caller threatening that a bomb was going to explode. A spokesman with the Orlando Fire Department said that, around the same time, a UPS truck had made a stop at the Regions Bank building, delivering several packages to the eleventh floor.
A bomb squad sifted through seven packages which were delivered by UPS and all were cleared after each was X-rayed for hazardous or explosive material.
Officials believe a disgruntled employee called in the bomb threat. They said that, a week earlier, this person was let go from Signature Flight, an aviation business on the eleventh floor. They believe Signature Flight was targeted in the hoax.
No bomb was located in the building and shortly before 6 p.m., police officers began re-opening closed streets throughout downtown.
