ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Ten- year-old Adam Marquardt practices baseball with his dad, Steve, everyday after school. But their routine changed a year ago, after Steve found out he had colon cancer.

"Since then, we went through six months of 'chemo' and follow ups."

As Steve recovered, Adam took up another hobby besides after school baseball. "Raising money for cancer," he says. And so far, he has raised $3,103.

The Hunters Creek fifth grader has received trophies for being the youngest person to raise the most money for the American Cancer Society. While many of the donations went to the Relay for Life event, Adam found other ways to raise money.

"I've mowed lawns. Selling lemonade, ice coffee, deserts , hot cocoa." He does it for his dad, whose cancer is now in remission.

"It helps me feel better. Eventually, when I get older, hopefully they will have found a cure for having cancer, so I don't have to hear your family member has cancer."

Steve is proud of his son. "He's gonna carry it and do what he wants to do and has done a fantastic job."

For Adam, there's nothing more rewarding than helping his father. "He means a lot, he's my entertainer, when he comes from school, and I've had a bad day he's my baseball coach, my fishing partner, he does everything with me."

Steve feels the same way. "He's my boy, and I sure love him."
