ST. CLOUD, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A St. Cloud man is being held in the Osceola County Jail without bond, after being charged with his third DUI. One of the victims says he should not have had a second chance after the first one.
Shannon Solchenberger says her daughters, Noveya and Cianna, have been slowly getting better after they were struck in a head-on collision in St. Cloud last May. The driver of the other car, Robert Beyer, was charged with a DUI.
"My youngest daughter was losing consciousness, and my oldest daughter was completely unconscious," said Solchenberger.
Noveya, 7, suffered several broken bones and 3-year-old Cianna had a fractured skull. The accident was frightening, Scolchenberger said.
"Panic, fear, I didn't know what was going to happen."
Four months after the accident, Scolchenberger felt a whole different emotion, when she discovered Beyer was arrested for another DUI.
"Shock! I couldn't believe after my accident there was another DUI."
Deputies said Beyer was stopped a second time after crossing the double yellow lines. And just two days ago, residents on Moon Dancer Place said Beyer was arrested in yet another DUI accident, this time injuring a teenage boy. Witnesses said the boy suffered a scrape on his arm.
"Even more shocked! I couldn't believe there was a third one after this, " said Scolchenberger. Shannon tells us Beyer should not have been out on bond. "It should have never gotten this far. Unfortunately, you're innocent until proven guilty. He has a right to a bond, and has a right to be free until he's proven guilty."
According to court records Beyer, pleaded "not guilty." Scolchenberger is glad his bond was finally revoked, but she worries for the safety of others, should he ever get out again.
"Obviously, my accident in May and then another DUI later, and another accident involving a pedestrian, it clearly shows it's not safe for him to be out on the road."
We contacted Beyer's attorney, but he didn't want to comment. He advised Beyer not to talk either.
