KISSIMMEE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Kissimmee Police think they’re close to nabbing the women responsible for at least 5 purse snatchings. Investigators arrested Johnicia Albury on separate charges in Orange County, but said she confessed that her two friends were accomplices.
Now the hunt is on for them.
Surveillance video captured at a Wal-Mart in Kissimmee was the key in identifying the suspects. It shows 88-year-old Violet Hanauer falling to the ground as a female suspect grabs her purse from behind.
Detectives said Albury is the main purse snatcher. They arrested her June 17. When investigators talked to her behind bars, they said she ratted out her buddies, Lovetta and Cynthia Teague, as well give the lowdown on their purse snatching spree.
The first incident happened in late May at an Apopka Wal-Mart, and then nearly two weeks ago, a woman was robbed at a Target in Casselberry. Finally, shoppers at two Wal-Mart stores in Osceola County were targets.
Melissa Acker said the women tried to take her purse at the Casselberry Target. Last week, she told us, she was grateful to be alive.
“She could have had a knife! She could have had a gun! They could have dragged me into the car. I just feel blessed that all I have are some bruises.”
Cops have issued arrest warrants for two others. Melissa hopes this incident hasn’t changed her forever.
“I’m such a trusting person I want to think the good in everyone, I hope I can continue to do that.”
