KISSIMMEE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) - When Jamie Layle's son started trading sneakers, she thought it was a nice, safe hobby for the teenager. "They wear them for a month or two. They all have a name, some of them are from movies. They're collectibles," Layle said.

Collectibles on Craigslist, which even crooks are eyeing. "They were supposed to trade a pair of Jordan's plus 20-bucks," Layle said.

Jamie, did not want to identify her son for safety reasons, but says, he was contacted by someone who wanted his Air Jordan 13's. "Instead of e-mailing on the ad he just texted him on his cell phone," she said.

They met at the corner of Emmette and North Thacker Avenue. Jamie says, one of the teens had a Nike box under his arm pretending he was going to do a trade, but instead the suspects beat up her son and took off with his sneakers without doing any type of a trade. "One boy came up to the side of my son and punched him in the head a couple of times and the other boy grabbed the sneakers they took off," Layle said.

Jamie tells us her son stepped away with some bumps to his head. "I was upset because he went and did it by himself, which we told him not to do these transactions by himself."

Jamie was able to track one of the teens through an email and gave his name to police to investigate. Meanwhile she has a warning. "If the kids are doing it keep your parents involved. Never go by yourself. If it seems like it's shady, it's probably shady. I was just heartbroken for him not just for the sneakers. He doesn't have that frame of mind so he was trusting he learned a lesson."

One for the sake of his own soul, as he continues to trade sneakers on Craigslist. Meanwhile police say they're searching for the two people who stole the sneakers.
