Friends and family of Fabiana Malave are still struggling to understand why William Davis targeted the 19-year-old in her kidnapping and murder which occurred on Thursday. Davis came to Malave's place of work, Super Sport Auto in Longwood, where homicide investigators said he took her at knife point and later killed her at his home in the Pine Hills community in Orlando.
"Everyone's still in shock. Everyone's still in a daze. Nobody wants to believe this actually happened," said Malave's best friend, Kahila Flores. "I just want Fabiana to pop up and say, 'I'm here, I'm alright, that wasn't me in the car.'"
Flores said Fabiana had a good heart and was kind to everyone, which is why it's hard to believe anyone would harm her.
"It didn't matter what the situation was; she was always there for me. She was just a very good-hearted person."
On Friday, results of a preliminary autopsy revealed that the cause of death was strangulation. The Seminole County Sheriff's Office also released a 911 call made by Malave's boss, after he discovered that she was missing. In the recording, you hear a distraught Jose Hernandez indicating that Davis might be a suspect in her disappearance.
"Everyone is worried," said Hernandez.
Malave's body would later be found in a car parked outside of the Part Time Lounge
Davis, 31, had recently purchased a car at Super Sports Auto. The following day, Hernandez said he had an appointment to pick up his title but never showed. Three days later, he showed up, but Fabiana told him to return in two hours. Again, he never showed. Then on Thursday, he came to the business unexpectedly.
"This was the third time he showed up. He was using the excuse he was coming to pick up the title. Every time, he had an appointment, he would miss it," said Hernandez.
Investigators believe Davis had been stalking Malave for some time. "It doesn't look random," said Seminole County Sheriff's Office spokesman, Lt. James Clark. "We don't know why he picked her.. why he chose her, why he chose to do this. We don't know."
A Timber Creek High School graduate, Malave was to get married next month and was working to pay her way through Valencia Community College. She would have turned 20 on Christmas Day.
Davis was transported to the John E. Polk Correctional Facility and charged with first degree premeditated murder and kidnapping. He is being held without bond.
