Deputy arrested for sexual battery of minor

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A Sumter County Sheriff's deputy has been arrested for charges of sexual battery on child under the age of 12. On Friday, agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement took Jeffrey Scott Hoover, 38, into custody. Hoover has been employed by the Sumter County Sheriff's Office since August of 2005.

F.D.L.E. was contacted by the Sumter County Sheriff's Office to handle the investigation, when the allegation of sexual abuse came to their attention earlier in the week.

Deputy Hoover was suspended, effective immediately, from the Sheriff's Office. Hoover was booked into the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center with no bond. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will handle any further press release / information on this matter.
