80 yr old fends of would-be rapist

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The Daytona Beach Police Department is investigating the sexual battery of an 80 year old woman who was raking leaves in her yard at the time of the attack.

Police said the suspect approached from the street and the victim thought the suspect was going to offer his assistance. As the suspect walked closer to the victim, the victim noticed he had a bandanna covering his face.

The suspect grabbed the victim by her arms and began to push her towards the shed located in the backyard. The victim was unable to fight off the suspect so she yelled as loud as she could. The suspect covered her mouth with his hand and continued pushing her towards the shed.

Once behind the shed the suspect forced the victim to the ground. He then removed her shorts and tried to have sex with her but was unsuccessful.

Afterward the suspect fled northbound towards Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd. The victim was highly upset as to what had just occurred and she called a friend to her house and told the friend what had occurred and they urge her to call the police.

The suspect is described as a black man, possibly in his 40s, standing at 5’7” and medium build. He was last seen wearing a blue and white horizontally-stripped polo shirt (short sleeve) and dark colored jeans.
The victim received minor injuries but no medical treatment required.
