DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Big changes are slated for Daytona Beach. City officials plan to revitalize a key area of the tourist destination to help give a much needed boost to to businesses and the surrounding community.

The Riverfront Master Plan is expected to cost about $75 million and construction could begin next year. Commissioners still have a final vote on the plan on August 4th. The project would span 14 blocks from the Main Street Bridge to South Street.

Part of the plan would narrow down Beach Street to two lanes instead of four and divide the strip up into five districts. The Nature District would be located near the current Manatee Island and would offer walking trails, fishing docks and a boardwalk.

The Arts District would be located just South of the Nature District and would offer entertainment and a sculpture garden walk. The Beach Street Esplanade area aims to be a restaurant and shopping hub for visitors to enjoy the sites along the Halifax River.

The final two destinations include docks, a yacht club, playgrounds and boat rentals in the City Docks and Halifax Harbor sections of the plan.
