Doctor arrested for writing fake prescriptions

A South Daytona doctor has been charged with writing fake prescriptions.

33-year old Edward Rutland is a urologist at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach. Police say he used a fake name at several Walgreens to fuel a drug addiction. A pharmacist noticed in the computer system when he tried to get more pills.
Rutland is charged with charged with Obtaining a Controlled Substance by Prescription Fraud (felony), Obtaining Medicinal Drugs by Fraud (felony), and Giving a False Name to a Law Enforcement Officer (misdemeanor).
