BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A groundbreaking ceremony for a drainage project will be held this morning for Lamplighter Village and Groveland Park, two areas that were devastated by flood waters from Tropical Storm Fay last year.

The ceremony will be hosted by Brevard County District 5 Commissioner Andy Anderson at 9 a.m. at the Lamplighter Village.

The drainage project was approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and will significantly decrease flood potential and redirect freshwater into the St. Johns River.

The $1.6 million drainage improvement is covered by a FEMA grant and the remaining cost of the project will be funded by the local government.

The project, which will include adding pipes, flapper gates and headwalls, will be completed within three months.
