SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon says he's confident the Panthers can get better this offseason - and quickly. The Panthers are expected to have about $30 million in cap space this summer, and Tallon says he's been given the go-ahead by new owner Vinnie Viola to spend money.

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - A Tampa drag racer has died from injuries he suffered in a crash at the Lakeland Motor Speedway earlier this month. The Lakeland Ledger reports that 42-year-old Waldemar Vazquez died Saturday at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. On April 5, Vazquez was traveling about 90 mph at the track when he crashed a 1981 Toyota.

NEW YORK (AP) - The Brooklyn Nets beat the Orlando Magic 97-88 last night. Mirza Teletovic scored a team-high 20 points and Joe Johnson and Mason Plumlee each added 17. Deron Williams had 16 points, five assists and four steals for the Nets.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Phillies scored a 4-3 victory over the Miami Marlins yesterday for a three-game sweep. Chase Utley extended his hot start with the tiebreaking homer among three hits. Utley raised his average to .500 through 10 games, with six doubles, three home runs and 10 RBIs.
