Ben Bailey

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

My career has taken me to many places across the country, but my family's connection to Detroit goes back almost a century. My great-grandfather was a barber in Detroit. He served in Europe during World War I and guarded the Windsor Tunnel during World War II.

I've worked in broadcasting for more than 15 years, starting at an AM radio station while I was in high school in Indiana. Since then I've lived and worked in Illinois, Missouri, Virginia and Tennessee. But as a native Midwesterner, it's good to be back.

In 2004, I covered Hurricane Charley as it ripped through the southeast. After experiencing the power and fury of one of this planet's most destructive forces, I have a renewed respect for the power of nature. That assignment also renewed my faith in the human spirit as I watched residents help each other rebuild their lives.

I'm a member of both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association, and I hold the Seal of Approval from both organizations.

I'm a proud graduate of the University of Missouri and try to follow the Tigers as much as I can. But growing up a Hoosier, I have a love of Big Ten sports as well.

You can catch me weekdays from 4:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on FOX 2 News Morning.
