Sonni Abatta is co-host of FOX 35 News at 5, 6, and 10pm.
Sonni was born and raised in Pittsburgh. She attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, majoring Creative Writing/Journalism and Drama and minoring in Spanish.
Just weeks after graduating she began work in her hometown at the historic KDKA television and radio station. While at KDKA, she covered a wide variety of stories, the more uplifting of which were two Superbowl victories for the Steelers in the past four years, giving the ‘Burgh the "Six Pack" of Super Bowl rings.
She also reported on another great moment in Pittsburgh sports history when the Penguins brought home their third Stanley Cup, covering the victory parade for three straight hours.
Her reporting work also includes coverage of the anniversary of the crash of Flight 93 in Somerset County, where each year, a memorial is held, honoring the victims.
Sonni's work featuring the Street Response Unit of the Pittsburgh Police Department earned an AP award and an Emmy nomination.
Her work has even allowed her the opportunity to fly with the Blue Angels and also participate in firefighter training for one very challenging day.
Sonni is also active with the American Cancer Society, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and is a member of the national alumni board for Carnegie Mellon University.
