Shots were fired at a Sanford Police Department car early Tuesday morning. The car was parked in the same area where the Trayvon Martin shooting took place.
The shots were fired around 4:30 a.m. at a marked but unmanned police patrol car sitting in the grass across the street from the Bentley Elementary school. This is right across the street from the Retreat at Twin Oaks neighborhood where the Trayvon Martin shooting took place. Police say neighbors called 911 when they heard the shots fired.
Sanford Police said the "spotter car" was placed in the area at the request of the school to help decrease the protestors and loitering in the area.
Investigators say several shots were fired at the vehicle shattering a window, the windshield, and at least one bullet went through the hood of the car.
Police say no one saw the shooting but believe it was a drive by shooting.
No one was injured.
